The United States will announce USD three billion in new military aid to Ukraine
on Wednesday as the war-torn country will mark its independence day and also the six-month anniversary of the Russian invasion, reported AFP. A US official confirmed the development to the news agency.
The new tranche of the US military package will help Ukraine to acquire more weaponry and ammunition for its armed forces to fight Russian troops in its eastern and southern parts. Earlier in the day, the US and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky
warned the Russian troops could step up the attack around Ukraine’s Independence day on august 24.
There will be muted independence day celebrations in Ukraine this year due to the Russia
n invasion. Notably, Russia blamed Ukraine for carrying out the assassination of Darya Dugina
, the daughter of Vladimir Putin’s aide, Aleksandr Dugin, and also vowed retaliation.
However, Ukraine denied any involvement in Dugina’s murder. Dugina was killed in a car bomb on the outskirts of Moscow. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said an investigation is underway into the assassination.

The Department of State has information that Russia is stepping up efforts to launch strikes against Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and government facilities in the coming days.” the US Embassy in Kyiv said as quoted by AFP.
On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke to his French counterpart Catherine Colonna and discussed an expected visit by independent inspectors to Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. Russia and Ukraine accused each other of shelling the nuclear facility.
