Air India Flight Diverted To Russia: The stranded passenger of San Francisco-bound Air India flight which had to be diverted to Magadan, a remote Russian city have been housed in dormitories as hotels in the area are unable to accommodate everyone on the flight. Air India flight AI173 operating from Delhi to San Francisco was diverted to Mangadan, which over 10,000 km from Russia’s capital Moscow, due to a technical glitch. Meanwhile, the replacement aircraft for the stranded passengers has been delayed as Air India officials are working through regulatory issues in order to operate the flight.

“Air India flight AI173 operating from Delhi to San Francisco developed a technical issue with one of its engines. The flight with 216 passengers and 16 crew was diverted and landed safely at Magadan airport in Russia,” the airline’s spokesperson said.

“The passengers are being provided with all support on ground and will be provided alternate options to reach their destinations at the earliest. The aircraft is undergoing mandatory checks on the ground,” the spokesperson added.

US Closely Monitoring San Francisco-Bound Air India Flight

The United States is “closely monitoring” the Air India flight that had to be diverted to Russia following a technical glitch. Flight AI173 from Delhi was diverted to Magadan in Russia on Tuesday owing to an engine glitch.

“We are aware of a US-bound flight that had to make an emergency landing in Russia and are continuing to monitor that situation closely. I’m not able to confirm how many US citizens were aboard the flight at this time,” State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel told reporters at his daily news conference.
