The Japanese government confirmed on Friday that former prime minister Shinzo Abe had been shot in the western region of Nara. “Former prime minister Abe was shot at around 11:30 am in Nara. One man, believed to be the shooter, has been taken into custody. The condition of former prime minister Abe is currently unknown,” AFP quoted chief cabinet secretary Hirokazu Matsuno as saying.

Former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe has reportedly been shot in the chest during a campaign speech in the city of Nara. Abe, who collapsed after the attack, was rushed to a nearby medical facility. He was attacked by a man from behind while he was making a stump speech on a street in Nara on Friday. The Police have arrested the man who attacked the former PM.
