Capitol riot defendant Stephen Ayres, who testified before the Jan. 6 select committee Tuesday, apologized to several Capitol Police officers sitting in the gallery, embracing them and shaking their hands. “I’m really sorry,” reporters nearby said they heard Ayres say.
