Google co-founder Sergey Brin finalized his divorce from Nicole Shanahan a year after reports came up that she had an affair with Twitter boss Elon Musk, The Wall Street Journal reported.

According to court documents obtained by Insider, a Santa Clara County Superior Court judge signed off on their divorce on May 26. Brin had filed for divorce in January 2022 amid rumors that his wife allegedly had an affair with Musk.

The Google co-founder cited ‘irreconcilable differences’, Insider reported on Friday. Brin is the ninth richest person in the world. Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimates his net worth at $118 billion.

Brin and Shanahan got married in 2018, according to court records. They have a four-year-old daughter named Echo.

What is the verdict on alimony?

The Insider further added that Brin and Shanahan signed a prenup, which stipulated that they would settle matters like spousal support ‘in confidential arbitration’.

The two filed for divorce in California, where child support is determined by the ‘disparity of income between the parents as well as the disparity of timeshare.’

Nicole Shanahan is a lawyer. She works for a non-profit in San Francisco called the Bia-Echo Foundation. According to the Insider’s report, she did not contest the divorce. However, she has asked for spousal support.

‘Shanahan and Brin settled issues including spousal support, lawyer fees, and division of assets in confidential arbitration, court records show, according to the Insider. The two have not made any comments yet.

Both Elon Musk and Nicole Shanahan denied their alleged affair.
